Cedar Point guests get stuck on roller coaster, forced to walk down

Cedar Point guests were reportedly forced to evacuate a roller coaster after the ride stopped because of a mechanical issue on Monday.

The Sandusky, Ohio amusement park’s Magnum XL-200, which reaches 205 feet high, experienced a “standard ride stoppage,” Cedar Point’s director of communications Tony Clark told Fox News Digital. Riders had to walk down the stairs on the roller coaster to exit.

Clark said the incident was a “check engine light” scenario, according to the outlet, and the ride could not be restarted at the time. Cedar Point did not respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.

The roller coaster made its debut in 1989 and landed in the Guinness Book of World Records “for its leading edge height," according to Cedar Point’s website. The ride was the fastest and steepest complete-circuit coaster in the world at the time of its launch, the park said.

Magnum XL-200 reaches speeds of 72 miles per hour and lasts nearly three minutes.

The incident comes after another Cedar Point roller coaster, Wild Mouse, stopped unexpectedly during a preview of the ride in May, and passengers had to be rescued by park personnel.
